Moles can dig for about 22 hours every day and can dig up to 150’ of new tunnels a day. Most tunnels are 6-12” deep.
With all that digging, each critter can create 6 new mounds a day. That’s how a lawn starts looking like swiss cheese seemingly overnight!
There are typically 3-5 moles or gophers per acre. It often feel like more because as soon as moles vacate their tunnels, voles move in.
Moles eat about 50 pounds of worms every year. They’re known to store away over 300 worms for munching on later.
There’s a reason we don’t see them out and about. They have 2x the oxygen-carrying pigment in their blood, and can even go 18 minutes without any oxygen – perfect for undergorund living.
Despite what you might wish, moles and gophers don’t actually hibernate. So they can be a year round problem!

Moles typically create a volcano-shaped dirt mound, whereas gophers create a horseshoe-shaped mound. Voles don’t create mounds, but will create open holes with shallow tunnels. Ground squirrels make big open holes throughout your yard. Regardless, our experts will be able to quickly determine what critter is damaging your yard and treat it accordingly.

We use pro traps, baits, and years of experience to get fast results. It’s not uncommon to resolve the issue in just a couple of visits. That varies depending on the number of critters and the size of the space. Once the problem is eliminated, we provide preventative service so they don’t come back.

We’ve heard all the home remedy solutions…gum, doggy doo doo, sonic devices, gasoline, even a shotgun. Unfortunately, we’ve found that those solutions aren’t consistently effective. That’s clear from the number of calls we get from people who have already tried those options.

Even with the same equipment as a professional, homeowners don’t typically get the same results. There’s a lot of experience behind how and where to place equipment and follow up.

Moles primarily eat grubs, worms, and insects. Voles eat grass, seeds, and plants. Same with gophers – they eat tubers, roots, nuts, etc. Given that, you can see why they’re attracted to your lawn and garden. It’s also why they’re difficult to prevent.
Limiting the water to your lawn can help with the grub and worm issue, and in turn, the mole problem. However, that’s not always an option if you enjoy a beautiful landscape.
You can install a “fence” buried 2’ around places you want to protect. But that is a massive project, and it really needs to extend 6” above ground as well. Not feasible for most people.

Our recommendation – use metal fabric around bulbs and gardens, and talk to us about our prevention plan. We’ll bait in tunnels preventatively, and routinely come to address any issues early – before your yard is destroyed and multiple moles or gophers move in.
