ABOUT BUG ZAPPER — OREGON PEST CONTROL SINCE 2013
Trust Is Earned.
Bug Zapper Pest Control is built by hard-working people who love helping people — and are just a little nerdy when it comes to bugs and pests.
ABOUT BUG ZAPPER
When you hire Bug Zapper, you get us.
Under a house in the dark, one of our technicians counted six pairs of eyes staring back. He’d crawled down there to track a dead-animal smell. What he found was a litter of kittens the vet later said were a day from not making it. He got them all out. (The dead opossum too.)
That’s the part of pest control nobody puts in the brochure. The ants and the rodents are why we get the call. What happens next — the elderly woman we walk home after she gets lost crossing a busy road, the fresh bee planter we leave on a grieving stranger’s grave, the 33 rats we pull out of a house whose owner had no idea it was that bad — that’s why we do it.
We’re field technicians, and we treat every home like it’s our own. When someone calls with a problem, we try to say yes — even when it means a day off, even when it means showing up at 7 p.m. because a customer was counting on us. One customer was so surprised we still came that she asked for a photo. We dig out the yellowjacket nest before it ruins a kid’s summer afternoon. We handle the moles before a week of fresh dirt mounds ruins someone’s mornings. When rats are keeping a family awake, we hand back the sleep.
Behind the crew is Jacob. Even as a kid, he loved two things: building businesses and helping people. By eighteen he’d already tried, failed, and tried again more than once. The 2008 real estate crash put him at the usual crossroads — quit or pivot — and he refused to do either the easy way. He started Bug Zapper with an old truck and a stubborn standard: consistent results and an experience worth talking about. Word spread.
Years later, we service communities across Oregon, and for a lot of families here, “call Bug Zapper” is simply what you do about a pest problem. Jacob will tell you the journey’s been worth it because of the people he gets to work with — the best in the business at solving pest problems, and just a little nerdy about bugs.
We think the story’s just getting started. We’d like you in the next part of it.

For some of my customers, I’m the only person they’ll talk to all day. Those conversations are the part of this job I’d never trade. I like getting to know people — really know them — and a lot of my customers have become friends, not just an account on a route. Building real friendships at every turn: to me, that’s the whole point of it.

Changing lives even in small ways is the biggest reason I do this. An elderly woman living alone had rats — she heard them every night and found droppings every morning. She got so scared she spent her days outside, closets barricaded shut, afraid something would jump out. A few visits in, I had them cleared. She’s been rodent-free for a month now. She’s sleeping in her own bed again. She’s not in tears when she gives me an update, and she’s not afraid to open a closet door. Your home is your safe place — when someone’s at their wits’ end over bed bugs or roaches or rats, it breaks my heart, and I try to meet them with empathy, patience, and kindness.

Helping people is rewarding, and usually it’s bugs or rats — but for me it’s more than that. I once knocked on a door for a routine service and the customer answered visibly upset. Before I did anything else, I just spent a little time with her. We’re still friends today. It’s the little things. I saw a post from someone in the community whose son’s grave site had been robbed — one of the stolen items was a bee planter. We love bees at Bug Zapper, so I planted a new one and left it at the grave with a note. I just wanted to put a little faith back in humanity.

There’s nothing like pulling up to a yard full of kids and dogs trying to enjoy a summer day, digging out a yellowjacket nest, and knowing I just saved them a really bad afternoon. I once pulled 33 rats out of a house in the first week — the customer had no idea it was that bad. When rats are keeping people up at night, I get to hand back their sleep. One day that hadn’t gone as planned, I was worn out, but a customer was counting on me. I got there at 7 p.m. She couldn’t believe I still came — happy enough that she asked for a photo of the two of us. That’s the job.

My team actually looks forward to helping as many people as we can, and we treat every home like it’s our own. When someone calls, I try to say yes — even if it means working extra or driving out on a day off. Just yesterday a customer called about moles. My day was already packed, but I knew if I didn’t go, they’d spend the next week waking up to new dirt mounds. So I went. That’s why I come to work: everyone should get to come home and actually relax, not stress about the little things.

I came from a security background, so it’s nice to have a job that isn’t babysitting adults making bad decisions. Every pest job is its own puzzle, and every one helps someone in a real way. One elderly couple had rats so bad they’d stopped having their grandkids over — they’d even missed Christmas and Thanksgiving. Two other companies had already tried and failed. We found the entry point, caught the rats, and got them their holidays back. A client with a horse ranch had gophers so bad a horse broke its leg on a mound and had to be put down; now there’s rarely a mound on the property. Sleep — without bugs, without rats — is just a better life.

Pest control started as just a job for me. Now it’s the best one I’ve ever had — helping people sleep better at night simply feels good. I had a customer who’d been away from home for months; rodents got in, chewing through walls and nesting inside, and for a while none of us could find where they were getting in. So I spent two hours one day going over the entire house, read the scratch marks, and finally figured it out and shut it down. He couldn’t believe I’d put in the extra time. This job never gets boring.
