Keep your property free of mice,
rats, and other rodents.
See something scurrying by from the corner of your eye? Hear the nighttime skittering of little feet on your floor? No one likes uninvited guests in their house – especially when those “guests” are rodents. They may appear cute, but these dirty pests are something you never want in the home. Rats and mice are significant carriers and spreaders of diseases like hantavirus, leptospirosis, rat-bite fever, Salmonella, and bubonic plague. On top of this, their strong front teeth are powerful instruments of expensive property and structural damage. The cost of missing or ignoring the signs of an ongoing rodent infestation can be high. Luckily, some smart preparatory measures before an infestation starts can turn your home into a veritable fortress.
If you have a rodent problem you need gone – or if you want to make sure a problem never even starts – Bug Zapper has your back. Our specially trained experts in pest trapping, proofing, and exclusion have all the skills, tools, and know-how to get the job done right, no matter the size or circumstances. That’s why we’re able to offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee across all of our services. Tell those rats to hit the road – or give Bug Zapper a call and we’ll tell them for you! .

Rodent infestations are generally easy to detect. Small droppings, urine stains, chewed materials, and bite marks are all tell-tale signs of rodent activity. Additionally, the oils from the rodents’ skin are transferred to surfaces over time, leaving dark trails over rodent paths. Longer rodent prescenses leave darker, more obvious trails. Dark, apparent rodent paths indicate regular or large-scale intrusion and are a warning that pest prevention and exclusion are necessary. If you need help identifying rodent activity within your home, don’t hesitate to give our experts a call.
Rodents are warm-blooded mammals, and enter homes and structures looking for food, water, shelter, and nesting materials. Rats can fit through ½ inch openings, and mice can fit through openings as small as a ¼ inch, with all varieties of rodent being extremely capable climbers. This means it’s easy for rodents to access anywhere that may meet their requirements for water, nutrition, and shelter. Unsecured trash and left out food are among the most common attractants that draw rodents into homes. Pet food often proves especially appealing to rodents. Leaking pipes, improper drainage areas, water damage, and pet water bowls can all serve as sources of water for rodent populations in the home. Clutter and debris in or around the home (such as in garages or basements) provides additional material for rodent shelter, warmth, and nesting. These elements, when combined with easy entry points, advertise your home to potential rodent inhabitants.
It’s frustrating to have to trap mice, rats, and other rodents once they’ve entered your home – but with a little preparation, they won’t be able to get inside in the first place. All gaps in the home over ¼ inch should be sealed (any gap a pencil can fit inside is large enough for a mouse to squeeze into). Common problem areas include under doors, on the sides of garage doors, at the corners of homes, where AC condenser pipes enter the siding or foundation, transitions from one roof line to another, and where the foundation meets the siding. All foundation vents should be checked, and any vents containing large holes should be re-screened using ¼ inch hardware cloth. Tree limbs, bushes, debris, and ground cover should be trimmed or kept back two feet from roofs and siding. This denies rodents access to roofs and makes them more vulnerable to predators while on the ground, keeping them away from entry points to your home. Additionally, pet water and food dishes should be brought inside at night, as pet foods left outside overnight can be a draw for rodents all over your neighborhood.
Since every home is different, rodent proofing (in conjunction with rodent removal) typically requires some creativity and adaptability to ensure every gap is permanently sealed. At Bug Zapper, our professional rodent proofing team has learned never to rely on expanding foam to prevent rodent entry, as rodents are quite capable of easily chewing through commercial foam products. More durable solutions are required to sufficiently fill large gaps. If spending the weekend stuffed beneath your home or trying not to fall off your roof sounds like a bad use of your time, give us a call and see the difference Bug Zapper can make. Our team has been sealing up homes for years and knows all the tricks and strategies that really work. Experience has also taught us what signs to watch out for and where to find tough gaps that might otherwise be missed. It’s these expert skills that allow us to offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee across all of our services, so you can rest easy knowing that your home is in the best hands.
